External Activities and Potential Conflicts of Interest
Grattan Institute's mandate is to be objective, evidence-driven and non-aligned. An important aspect of our governance is to ensure that the external activities of our staff avoid conflicts of interest or reputational concerns, whilst also supporting their aspirations and value of them participating in the broader community.
Our staff are required to disclose, and have approval, to undertake any paid or unpaid external activities. This information is published on our website to maintain transparency with our stakeholders and broader community.
Permission is granted on a case-by-case basis. As always in these matters, common sense, sound judgement, mutual trust and integrity apply.
A sub-committee of our Board, comprising of Allan Myers QC (Chairman), Dr David Kemp (Director) and Professor John Daley (CEO) determine permissions.
