Water competition: the UK experience

Over the past decade, water restrictions have been imposed in many Australian cities. There have also been significant investments to increase supplies of water. With the immediate risks to water security abating, there is now an opportunity to explore how we could improve delivery of water services in the future. Professor Martin Cave, the author of a UK Government report on urban water reform discussed the importance of a staged approach to gradually increasing competition in urban water supply that should reduce costs.
